Holland’s Highlights 10/24 – 10/28

Happy Fall, Carolina Voyager Families!  We hope everyone had a successful 1st quarter.  We had such a great turnout with student and parent/guardian conferences throughout the week.  There are many activities pertaining to testing and Halloween activities happening this week.  See information below for up coming dates and in the classroom happenings.

Cogat Nomination Testing

Students who were nominated to complete the GT Cogat assessment will begin testing on Tuesday, October 25th through October 26th.

Halloween

Elementary students grades K – 5 will be participating in a Halloween parade on Friday, October 28th at 1:00.  Many of our middle school students will be accompanying their “Buddies” along the parade route.  Tables with Halloween goodies will be set up in the back of the school where parents and guardians  can celebrate their student.

PTO Updates

Halloween Event Treat Stations – The event is this FRIDAY, October 28th starting at 1pm. We are asking for volunteers to create and host treat stations – this can be family members, groups of families, or businesses tied to a Voyager student.

Treat Stations can be whatever works for those who sign up – a fully decorated table with hosts in costume or someone willing to hand out giveaways from their popup chair along the parade route. You do not have to provide the candy or or favors to give out, it’s absolutely fine to just create and host a station. If you sign up, plan to park in the back lot and stations will be set up under the Big Trees in the back of the school and you can set up anytime from 12 – 12:45pm. Please use this link to sign up.

Orca Game Night is Thursday, Nov 3rd starting at 6pm – We’re playing BINGO! You can preorder pizza by the pie to enjoy as a family, the order form and payment envelopes should be coming home with your students. Please RSVP by Monday, Oct 24th with this link and then send your order form with payment back with your student to their homeroom.

PTO Meeting – We will be meeting just before our Game Night on November 3rd from 5 – 5:30pm in the cafeteria.

In the Classroom

3rd grade, in writing used nonfiction text to research and report findings about an owl’s habitat, diet, adaptions, and other additional facts. In science, they began an animals studies unit.  3rd grade finished their first big writing project and closed with a visit from Lowcountry Raptors and an owl pellet dissection.

Ms. Hosig’s class began meeting with their Buddy Classrooms! Sixth and seventh graders had a wonderful time reading books to Ms. Walchesky’s Kindergarteners, Ms. Broughton’s first graders, and Ms. Rosinski’s second graders! We can’t wait to do more cool activities with our Buddies as the year goes on!

Kindergarten went to the pumpkin patch and my class started classroom buddies.
